INTRODUCTION

Happen upon a breathtaking view or a freak of light and the chances are that your thoughts will turn to photography and on to cameras, films and lenses. If you are undecided where to go from there, How to Photograph Landscapes will launch you in the right direction. This book has been compiled with the practical photographer very much in mind. The text is concise and authoritative. It is backed up by a liberal selection of exciting pictures which provide an insight into the tremendous potential that awaits the landscape photographer.

Starting right at the beginning, the opening chapter delves into different aspects of equipment - from boots and parkas to films and tripods. Moving out into the open, the following chapters investigate various ways of giving life to landscape pictures through lighting, composition and timing. Some chapters concentrate on photographing landscapes in black and white. They provide solutions to the problem of creating pictures with impact in shades of grey.

Turning from taking pictures of sunsets, which concludes the practical pages of the book, How to Photograph Landscapes finishes with a selection of portfolios and interviews with six masters in the art. The pictures captured by Kenneth Griffiths, Franco Fontana, Frank Horvat, Laurie Lewis, Horst Munzig and Adam Woolfitt are very personal statements. They provide a stimulating insight into the powerful material that's out there waiting for you and your camera.
