Backpacking and river-running exploits led Theda Bassman into Arizona where she met the Hopi Indians. Their feelings for nature and environment were so similar to hers that she developed many friendships with them in a short period of time. For the past forty-five years she has traveled to the Hopi mesas, not only to visit her Hopi friends, but also to buy their crafts. In 1972 she opened a gallery in Beverly Hills called "The Indian and I."
