Beskrivning:
The main concern of this thesis is what may be called 'abandonments', that is, culturally prescribed practices performed when something is temporarily or permanently handed over to forces beyond the relinquishers' control, whether spirits or mythical beings, in the area of southern Scandinavia between 7,000 and 4,000 BC. Abandonment is a general term used in order to collectively delineate phenomena such as burial, deposition, exchange, house abandonment, identity abandonment, place abandonment and landscape abandonment. Having studied the archaeological record with such notions in mind, the author has opted for three traditions of relinquishment, three periods that only partly follow the standard divisions. The first tradition is called the Blak, a recently acknowledged categorisation of material culture that in the thesis dates to 6,800-6,200 BC. It roughly corresponds to the end of the Maglemose and the early Kongemose. The Aceramic tradition, which falls between 6,200 and 4,800 BC, has in normal terminology been the middle and late Kongemose and the early Ertebølle. Finally, the Pointed Base Ware is the ceramic Ertebølle or the middle and late Ertebølle, a tradition that covers at least the time span from 4,800 BC to 3,900 BC. In fact, strands of it seem to continue well into the early Funnel Beaker, which ended around 3,500 BC.
The traditions of abandonment have been approached from a specific theoretical perspective that may be described, following Donna Haraway, as a critical theoretical cyborg. The cyborgian theory assembled is an elaborate mix of queer theory, feminism, archaeology, anthropology and philosophy. Through it, a series of premises has been set up. For instance, it is claimed that where there is normalising domination, oppression and normativity there is also destabilising resistance, subversion and queerness. Another example is the assumption that gender, age and kinship constitute a normative complex that disciplines sexual practices, a side effect of which is the coming into being of queer 'undead' existences and conditions.
